Once you realise that to deny today’s energy poor the right to the cheapest possible energy you are actively worsening the situation for billions of actual people, their lives and health and access to education and all of it, today, now, and not on some distant, dystopic Matrix-like future timeline that I would bet my entire existence on will NEVER happen (barring nuclear holocaust), you start to get really, really frustrated with comments and articles like the one below…
Damn, do such people not hear themselves when such words come out of their mouths or, worse still, when they type them out and have time to think about the crap they are spewing?
“If they choose to burn it”!!!!!!!!!!!
Like, “OK poor people, we’ll give you this coal/gas/oil if you’d like to cook with it instead of cow shit and perhaps even power your 30 year old car BUT PLEASE really think hard about this as if you choose to use it you’ll be actively destroying the far off future of our grandchildren, it’s like totally proven and there’s a direct link between you and your grandchildren using such energy sources (which by the way we’ve been using willy nilly for, like, 100 years) and Earth’s future DESTRUCTION“.
And that’s just a simplistic version of the situation, not one where entire regions of entire countries need more access to electricity to like, you know, allow people to have a light or two and charge their phones and stuff via power points in their homes…
Sheesh, such complete arrogance and naivete and overall elitism all mixed together…
They should just come straight out and say “your (incredibly poor, malnourished and disadvantaged) grandchildren are going to ruin the future for our (incredibly wealthy) grandchildren”, and be done with it…
Oh that’s right, Obama has pretty much already said that…
KEY QUOTE:
“To say we dig it out and supply it, but hey it’s not our responsibility if they choose to burn it, ignores the world our grandchildren will face. It’s like those ads on television that push sports betting and other forms of gambling: Here is the product to bet all you want, but please be responsible with betting.”
