UPDATE 4/1/2022:

Well well well, it seems the old narrative really is sinking, unlike these atolls…

UPDATE 25/10/2021:

It seems the old Maldives are still doin alright, despite impending doom… but no, really, 17 new resorts does seem a pretty comprehensive rebuttal of any suggestions of upcoming underwater disaster…

ORIGINAL POST:

Indeed this will happen, there’s no denying it, no matter how proficient a denialist you are.

There’s just a little matter of when, really, and on that front there is a little more conjecture, and, shall we say, bullshit. As shown in the graphs below, Armageddon, it seems, is still a way off, at least by rushing, flooding waters. 3mm a year… How will we make it to higher ground in time?!!!

And, either way and all jokes aside, we will have to adapt, oh yes, we will have to adapt… Which leads one to the question “why not just get on with things?”

Adapt already, gods be damned!

Or are sea level rise adaptation jobs not good enough for everybody? Clearly not as interesting as those fantastic solar panel manufacturing and wind turbine maintenance roles, which just sound so appealing…

Oh, and again, given the sea’s gonna rise anyway, there’s guaranteed jobs demand. What more could we ask for?!

NOTE: The final image is from Bjørn Lomborg and provides a very interesting view of what adaptation to sea level rise could look like, compared to everyone, everywhere, doing absolutely nothing at all, kind of like just sitting around on beaches as the tide comes in, and doesn’t go out, over decades…

With a little bit of human ingenuity it seems we may not all be doomed after all…
